Collect inspiring examples of editorial design along with a short description of why you chose them.

Cosmopolitan Magazine –

I chose these three pages because of their clear and interesting layouts. The cover caught my attention because of the photography combined with typography and a bright pink color, which makes the cover stand out.

The second spread stood out to me because of the clear grid layout that is used to show the different jeans. The grid makes the page structured and fun to look at, while the photos of the people in the right bottom corner add variation.

In the third spread I really liked the different opacity’s of the fonts. I also liked that they showed photo’s and not just text.

Harper’s Bazaar Magazine –

I chose these spreads because of the layouts and use of photography. In the first spread I liked that most of the text is straight, but the text next to the pan is curved. This creates variation and makes the layout more playful.

In the second spread, I liked the collage style layout with the images. The positioning of the objects makes the page clear but also visually interesting.

In the third spread, I liked that it mainly uses one large image with very little text. This puts the focus on the photography and allows the image to tell a story.

See All This Kunst magazine –

I chose these pages because of the unique typography and calm layouts. On the cover, I liked the font because it looks handmade, which gives the magazine a personal touch.

In the middle spread, I liked how most of the text is placed on the left page and a smaller part on the right page. The centered text and use of black and white create a calm and clear layout.

On the back cover, I liked the pink and white gradient combined with the green text. I think that the colors match very well. I also liked the typography, because the letters look different from each other but still feel like one style.

Atelier, aan de slag met kunst Magazine –

The first spread is an infographic. I liked how it uses both images and text, which makes the explanation clearer and easier to understand.

In the second spread, I liked the small printed card placed next to the painting. This makes the text feel attached to the painting.

GQ Magazine –

I chose this page because of the use of a large image combined with text. The big photo creates a clear focus. I also liked that the title of the text uses two different fonts.

Flow Magazine –

This page is the back of the magazine. I liked how the image fills the whole page with text placed on top. This creates a strong connection between image and text and adds depth to the layout.

Happinez Magazine –

I chose this spread because of the creative use of photography and color. The left page shows a photo with the original colors, while the right page uses a pink and black filter. The same colors are used in the text. These colors are also colors that come back in de left page, with makes these two pages very fitting. The handwritten style font makes the spread feel personal, like a journal page.

Grazia Magazine –

With this spread I liked the left side a lot. I like that the text above the image is tilted and that the three “Z” in “Zacht” are on different levels. I also like that there is a part of the text on the right page that is bigger and in the middle of the left and right texts.

Saar Magazine –

On this page I really like that the subheading of the text are facing different ways, have different colors and different fonts and sizes. It makes them very different than the regular text and in this way the subheads also tell a story themselves.

&C Magazine –

I liked the way the text was positioned under the heel. It shows very clearly that that part of the text is apart of the heel.
