Week 4 Magazine layouts

I chose Idea magazine as it also balances a kind of minimalist communicative approach with on the other hand very interesting experiments with Type. Creating rather unique layouts with type which may not necessarily consist of a large amount of text but clearly communicate basic words in very interesting ways breaking up the readers flow in interesting ways.

These two spreads designed by Greiman back in the early 80s were meant to be folded out in the magazine thus providing a very different way of interacting with the magazine. More interestingly I think it shows very radically, especially the first spread, what spreads can also look like. A way more chaotic approach with a way different grid. Also it provides very interesting examples of how to use Illustrative photography.
